Darin Unruh

“David”

Darin is a Captain with the Houston Fire Department, Office of Emergency Communications.

During a tragic house fire on November 3, 2008, he was severely injured and almost lost his life. His engine company was inside the house bravely fighting the blazing inferno when something went wrong. A “May Day” was called because Darin was down. He was pulled out of the house and miraculously resuscitated after being in cardiac arrest for several minutes. To God be the glory!

Darin sustained facial scars from the second and third degree burns he suffered during that fire, and they are a constant reminder that we, as humans, are not always in control.

At Christmas time, Darin and his family often return to the John C. Dunn Burn Unit at Memorial Herman Hospital in downtown Houston to serve and minister to patients and families who are there being cared for. His wife of 18 years, Jill, is his best friend and helper, and they are blessed with two loving children, Sophia and David. They live in Conroe, TX. Darin is a deacon at Faith Bible Church in The Woodlands.

“I have no acting experience, but I am making the movie because Justina Page, another burn survivor in Stronger, told me to, and I know the struggles I have had throughout this very difficult trial. I hope and pray we can help those who help everyone else... the military, firemen, police, medical personnel, etc."
